Controlled Burn Completed on Saturday, April 7, 2012

If you visit Sparta High School, you will notice that the fields surrounding the building have been reduced to black ashes.  After years of planning and patience, forty acres surrounding Sparta High School were carefully burned on Saturday to make way for a prairie project that will bring native wild flowers, insects, and birds to the property.  Sparta Area Schools (essentially Sue Blackall) worked cooperativley with the Sparta Fire Department, The United States Fish and Wildlife Service, and The Nature Conservacy to help the project come to fruition.   A special thanks to Sue Blackall and the Sparta Fire Department for their efforts on Saturday.  For more information, please follow this link:
